Kick Brands and Packages New Breakfast Cereal
Minneapolis, Minnesota, July 17, 2012 — When Minnesota-based MOM Brands decided to capitalize on the popularity of their Mini-Spooners SKU with grocery shoppers, the breakfast cereal maker tapped Minneapolis design consultancy Ideas that Kick for branding and packaging concepts.
“MOM Brands did more than take a chance on turning a popular product into a master brand,” says Mary Kemp, Kick President and Brand Strategist. “They launched with flavor combinations never put on store shelves by their major competitors, Post and Kellogg’s. Our branding and packaging system are designed to deliver ‘shelf kicker’ results in that competitive landscape.”
“Our Spooners package design had to work on bags as well as boxes,” adds Stefan Hartung, Kick Creative Director. “Articulating the brand story required the perfect balance of descriptors, nutritional benefits, cross-sell messaging and tasty flavor cues. Our color palette for the brand creates a bold billboard effect to differentiate Spooners on shelf.
“Larger-than-life product and flavor cue photos whet consumer appetites,” Hartung continues. “Stacked cereal biscuits visually depict the balanced breakfast a bowl of Spooners represents.”
Spooners hit retail shelves in July 2012, launching in time for a predicted strong third quarter.
